This appointment may have been booked already before the delivery. If not, you can simply contact your midwife by phone and book your postnatal check. The midwife will ask questions about the pregnancy and the delivery and the appointment will also cover:

  • A conversation about the well-being of the mother, breastfeeding, parenthood and sex life.
  • Information about contraceptives, including a prescription if required.
  • A check of blood pressure, haemoglobin levels and weight.
  • A genealogical examination to see how any rupture is healing and an assessment of the ability to squeeze and lift the pelvic floor muscles.

Even if everything is well and good after childbirth, it’s always a good idea to have a postnatal check and get the midwife’s views and professional assessment.
