Baby development

I've been quite tired lately and spend most of my time sleeping, 90-95% of the time.

Mother can be a little concerned if she doesn’t feel me moving around as regularly as before but my movements should not decrease in quantity or strength, on the other hand, they may feel different as it begins to get crowded in here. Instead of my obvious karate kicks or buffs, she can instead feel powerful pressure or as if I'm stretching. If she is worried about my well being, she can always contact her midwife or hospital so they can perform a checkup.

Mother's activities influence my behaviour and my activity levels are controlled by what, and at what times, my mum eats, what she does with her body and the sounds around us both. I am now in a growth spurt, and my protein and fat needs will be especially high in the coming weeks. My mother must eat a healthy and balanced diet so we both receive the nutrition we need.

Mothers development

Your child has now probably gotten itself in position before delivery with its head pressed down into the pelvis and its buttocks pressed against your ribs.

The reason for this position is partly because of the head, which is the baby's heaviest body part. The weight imbalance causes the child to turn downwards, and the head is now in the pelvis.

The rest of the body wraps itself around the majority of the pear-shaped uterus. The fact that the child is in this position is also most beneficial to you since childbirth is easier if the head comes out first. Less than five per cent of all children are in the opposite position, i.e., with the butt down. This is called a breech birth. Midwives and doctors can usually see if a baby is in the breech birth position and can then try to help turn the baby around. If they are unable to do this, they will discuss the possibility of birth through caesarean section.

Co-parent

Last week, you focused on the value of “alone-time”, but now it's time to prioritise you and your partner.

It's probably starting to sound like a broken record, but time is of the essence so you have got to take advantage of every opportunity now. Look after each other! Have a night out if you are both in the mood. Just be sure not to go too far from everything you need as the baby could be ready to come out when you least expect it.

And as usual, you should take the reins and manage all the practical things your partner might struggle with at this time as even basic household chores might be too overwhelming for her.
