1. Walks in the pram

A walk in the pram is a simple yet lovely activity for both babies and toddlers. It gives parents and children the chance to enjoy the fresh air and explore the surroundings. Babies can lie back and watch the world go by, while toddlers can point and chat about what they see.

Tip: Head to a park or nature area to give your child new sights, sounds, and experiences.

2. Picnic in the park

Pack a small picnic basket and a blanket and head to the park. A picnic is a fantastic activity for babies and toddlers alike. Babies can sit on the blanket and explore their surroundings, while toddlers can play on the grass or enjoy eating their lunch outdoors.

Tip: Bring along a few toys or books to keep your child entertained.

3. Balloon play

Let your child play with a balloon outdoors. It’s a perfect activity for toddlers and babies who are just starting to discover movement. The balloon floats and bounces, and your child can try to catch or kick it.

Tip: Always supervise closely to prevent the balloon from ending up in the mouth.

4. Exploring nature

Spring is the best time to begin exploring nature. Take a little trip to a nearby park or woodland and let your child discover flowers, trees, and animals. For babies, this might mean feeling different textures or simply looking at colourful flowers and leaves. Toddlers can collect pine cones, pebbles, or sticks.

Tip: Always keep a close eye on your child to make sure nothing ends up in their mouth.

5. Feeding the birds

Feeding the birds is a fun and educational activity. Let your child help scatter seeds or bread crumbs for the birds in the park or garden. With babies, you can gently guide their hands to help them spread the food.

Tip: Encourage your child to watch the birds as they come to eat – it can be an exciting moment for them.

6. Blowing bubbles

Bubbles are always a hit with toddlers! Take a bottle of bubble solution outside and let your little one chase and try to pop the bubbles. For babies, you can blow the bubbles and enjoy their amazed reactions as the bubbles float through the air.
Tip: Bubble play also helps babies and toddlers develop their motor skills and coordination.

7. Digging in the sandpit

If you have access to a sandpit, it’s an activity that both babies and toddlers will love. Toddlers can build sandcastles or dig holes, while babies can feel the sand – and possibly taste it (so watch them closely!).

Tip: Bring along a bucket and spade so your child can experiment with different tools.

8. Colourful balls or buckets

For toddlers who enjoy throwing or rolling things, playing with soft balls outdoors can be both fun and good for development. Rolling or kicking balls back and forth helps improve coordination and motor skills.

Tip: Choose soft, age-appropriate balls that aren’t too heavy or hard.

9. Playing in the rain

For babies and toddlers who don’t mind a bit of rain, playing outside during a drizzle can be a wonderful sensory experience. Dress them in waterproof clothes and wellies, and give them a raincoat or small umbrella. Let them jump in puddles or simply feel the raindrops on their skin.

Tip: Make sure to warm them up and change into dry clothes afterwards to avoid getting cold.

10. A bike ride in a child bike seat

If your child is old enough and can sit safely in a child bike seat, a gentle bike ride can be a brilliant spring activity. Many children love the feel of the wind in their hair and enjoy watching the scenery go by as you pedal along. For babies, a bike trailer offers a cosy ride through nature.

Tip: Always ensure your child is properly strapped in and protected in their bike seat.
