1. Don’t focus too much on the carrycot
The carrycot is only used during the first months (usually 3–6 months). After that, the seat unit takes over for several years. Put most of your attention on finding a comfortable, spacious and reversible seat unit that your child can grow into. Don’t forget the hood – it should protect against sun, wind and rain.
2. Don’t forget the shopping basket
A pushchair is not only for transporting your baby – it also needs to carry everything from nappies to spare clothes. The bigger the basket, the better! Make sure it’s easily accessible even when the carrycot is attached.
3. Check the car fit
Do you travel by car often? Try loading the pushchair into your boot before you buy. Removing the wheels may feel fine the first few times, but it quickly gets tiresome. Also consider an infant car seat that can click directly onto the chassis (with or without an adapter). That way, you won’t have to wake your baby when moving in and out of the car.

4. Test the pushchair together
You’ll be taking many walks – together and separately. Make sure both of you test drive the pushchair before buying. Check that the handlebar adjusts to the right height and that the steering feels comfortable. Try out different wheel types:
- Air tyres – great for uneven ground
- Foam/plastic wheels – low maintenance
- Swivel wheels – easy to manoeuvre in cities
- Larger fixed wheels – more stable on country roads
5. Match the pushchair to your lifestyle
Live in the city? A slim and easy-to-manoeuvre pushchair is a smart choice.
Live in the countryside? Then you’ll want a pushchair with good suspension and durable wheels.
And don’t forget to measure your lift if you live in a block of flats – being stuck with just a few centimetres to spare is no fun!
6. Double-check delivery times
Once you’ve decided on a pushchair, you don’t want to be left without when the baby arrives. Some popular models have long delivery times – order well in advance to avoid stress.
