Baby development
I now resemble a very tiny newborn child.
I have begun to find my rhythm, but it doesn’t always line up with that of my mother, and there are times when I am often in motion just as she is about to wind down for the day. Sometimes it’s the other way round. It’s so nice to be rocked to sleep whilst mum is on the go.
My kidneys are now sufficiently developed to take over the production of amniotic fluid, which had previously been overseen by the placenta. The kidneys are also capable of managing some of my waste, although most of it will go through the placenta to the mother's circulation to be disposed of.
Mothers development
At this stage of the pregnancy, you are hopefully feeling pretty well.
The pangs of nausea have passed for the most part. You are showing, but not enough to stop you from engaging in your daily routines. You may be sweating a little more than usual because of the extra weight you have put on and the volume of blood in the body. If the baby has begun to move in there, you can expect some pretty strong kicks to the ribs and pubis. But if you still feel nothing, as always there is nothing to worry about. You will feel those kicks sooner than you think.

Hold on to your hat.
With such a tiny frame, the baby's little heart is working overtime, about 110-160 beats per minute (compared with ours, which is between 60-80 beats). It’s been said that if you’re lucky and place your ear to the pregnant belly you should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat. However, it isn’t something recommended by midwives this early in the pregnancy since there is a risk you may not hear anything and it may cause unnecessary worry. So save it for visits to the midwife instead.
Now might be a good opportunity to book a preventative healthcare course ahead of the delivery date. Given that your partner is likely to be feeling much better, this will also be an added opportunity for you two to spend more time together. Perhaps a walk, an exercise session, a yoga course or doing nothing at all might be worth taking advantage of at this time. Anything goes as long as you enjoy each other's company.
