27 weeks pregnant

Baby development
The intestines have matured and should now be able to receive breast milk.
My taste buds have also evolved meaning depending on what mother eats I can also get a sense of it from the amniotic fluid. My coordination skills have improved and I can hold my feet and direct my hands into my mouth.
I’ve added more subcutaneous fat, but the skin is not filled yet. My eyelashes have become long and the muscles in my arms and legs are significantly stronger. If I were born now, I would stand a good chance of survival. However, every week leads to significant development, so I'd love to stick around in my mother's belly for just a little longer.
Mothers development
Your body is greatly affected by the pregnancy so it’s good to try and maintain a basic level of fitness.
Exercise improves fitness and boosts your well-being. It doesn’t have to be a strenuous workout and can be limited to a daily bike ride or walk around your neighbourhood.
Some women suffer from varicose veins, erratic or bump-like enlargements of the blood vessels that may occur on the legs, in the genital region or the rectum (haemorrhoids). Varicose veins usually disappear after childbirth. You may also experience pain or numbness in your hands. This is called carpal tunnel syndrome and is because more fluid is collected in the tissues, creating pressure around the nerves and tendons. It can be unpleasant and cause numbness in your fingers. It is often worst in the morning, whilst over the day as you move your hands, circulation improves and the level of discomfort lessens. If you have persistent problems, contact your healthcare centre and ask for help.

Talking about the importance of exercise is undoubtedly a cliché.
But as they say about clichés - there's a reason people tend to repeat them. Whatever the scenario you could both do with a bit of a walk, a bike ride or if the expectant mother isn’t suffering from the effects of swollen feet and legs then a visit to the gym. You might be in for some tough times ahead so take advantage of the opportunity whilst you can. You’re approaching the home stretch.
