1. You've got twins in your family
The likelihood of getting pregnant with twins is inherited so if you're curious you can do some family research. The probability of having twins is particularly high if the mother-to-be has a relative who is a parent of twins.
2. You feel very sick
When you're expecting twins you've got unusually high levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG. This can mean you'll suffer from pregnancy sickness and vomiting to a greater degree than with a "normal" pregnancy. But you can be pregnant with twins and not feel sick at all.
3. You're extremely tired
Fatigue is another common pregnancy symptom that can be felt more intensely in a twin pregnancy. The same applies here as with nausea – not everyone pregnant with twins is destroyed by fatigue.
4. You've done IVF
The chance of becoming pregnant with twins increases with IVF. It explains why the number of twins has risen sharply in the last ten years - they have simply increased at the same rate as the number of IVF treatments performed.
5. You're over 30
The chance of becoming pregnant with twins increases with the age of the mother. After turning 30, the probability of having twins is about 1 in 80, which is quite a bit higher than when you are under 30.
6. You get a bump early
You'll often get a bump earlier when you're pregnant with twins, but all bodies are unique. You can gain a lot of weight and size early in pregnancy, even if only one baby is hiding in your stomach.
7. You feel the babies move early
In a "normal" pregnancy, you usually don't feel any foetal movements until weeks 18-20. You can feel the movements earlier when you're expecting twins.
