Heartburn and Acids
Heartburn is a common issue during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Acid reflux can bring stomach acid into the mouth, which can damage tooth enamel. To protect your teeth, rinse your mouth with water after experiencing heartburn. Avoid brushing your teeth immediately afterward, as enamel is more susceptible to damage after exposure to acid.
Dry Mouth During Pregnancy
Hormonal changes can also lead to dry mouth during pregnancy. A dry mouth makes it harder to keep the mouth clean, increasing the risk of cavities and gum problems. Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth hydrated, and use sugar-free chewing gum or lozenges to stimulate saliva production.
Gum Inflammation and Pregnancy Gingivitis
Pregnancy gingivitis is a form of gum inflammation caused by hormonal changes. It makes the gums swollen and more prone to bleeding. To prevent and alleviate this, brush gently twice a day and use dental floss to remove plaque between your teeth.

It is especially important to attend regular dental check-ups during pregnancy to detect any potential problems early. Always inform your dentist that you are pregnant so they can provide appropriate advice and avoid treatments that may affect the baby.
