Baby development
Blood circulation is fully functional and my immune system is as ready as it could ever be in my mother's belly.
Even my brain is fully grown and mature enough for life outside the womb. I am nestled in the pelvis and now waiting to see the light of day. It has become incredibly cramped in the womb and if my head is in place for delivery, that will limit my mobility. My movements are now largely restricted to pressing and sliding, although their frequency should remain the same. If my mother experiences a slowdown in my movements she should speak to a healthcare professional.
Mothers development
The final weeks of pregnancy can be quite difficult.
Your body has undergone a major transformation and your desire to see your baby is overwhelming. The body retains extra fluid and your hands, feet and legs are often swollen. Shake your fingers and put your feet up when sitting or lying down. If you have rings, it may be a good idea to remove them; otherwise, that might be difficult to do once they begin to swell.
The child is now firmly slotted into your pelvis, making it easier to breathe. The pelvis may feel more stable, but the pressure on your bladder will probably increase. This is why some women may waddle around like penguins at this time.

Waiting is the hardest part.
Most of the practical tasks should have been sorted out. (If they haven’t, there is no reason to panic since you still have time.) However, it's probably a good idea to approach things practically - how do you envision the first few weeks after delivery? Would you like to have visitors over? Who will be responsible for tasks when you get home? How long will you be home together? It may feel a bit difficult to plan, but it is always good to have a strategy. Since your partner can go into labour at any time, it’s important to have your fully charged phone with you at all times. If you drink, avoid alcohol or at least wait until you can both share a toast with loved ones.
