Why Breasts Leak
The let-down reflex is triggered in both breasts when your baby nurses, even the one not being fed from. This reflex helps ensure your baby gets enough milk and keeps production going. Leaking is normal and healthy.
Tips to Minimise Leaking
- Press on the nipple: Lightly press to slow milk flow.
- Use your hand: Cover the breast briefly to stop drips.
- Milk collection cups: Collect leaking milk in your bra; you can freeze it for later.
Nursing Pads and Bra Inserts
Available as disposable or reusable, nursing pads prevent clothes from getting stained. Change them often to avoid irritation or yeast growth.
Skin Care and Hygiene
- Wash nipples gently with warm water.
- Air dry when possible.
- Replace pads regularly.
Everyday Tips
- Carry spare pads in your bag.
- Keep a small cloth nearby for drips.
- Use thin night pads for sleeping.
