“If you eat a lot of salt, you’ll have a boy”

Nope – there’s no scientific evidence to back this up. Your baby’s gender is determined at conception, and your diet won’t change that.

“Pineapple or running stairs can start labor”

There are plenty of tips on how to jump-start labor, but none of them have been proven effective. Your baby will come when ready, no matter how much pineapple you eat or how many stairs you run.

“Babies born on airplanes get free flights for life”

It might sound like a great perk, but it’s unfortunately a myth. Most airlines even discourage flying late in pregnancy to avoid births on board.

“C-sections are named after Julius Caesar”

It’s easy to think the term “cesarean section” comes from Julius Caesar, but that’s a long-lived myth. The word actually has a different origin and no direct link to the emperor.

“Spicy food causes colic in babies”

Spicy food may give you heartburn, but it doesn’t cause colic in your baby. It’s safe to eat spicy food while pregnant, as long as you’re comfortable with it.

“Playing Mozart will make your baby smarter”

Music does influence the fetus, but there’s no proof that classical music – or Mozart specifically – boosts intelligence. Still, calm music can help you and your baby relax.

So, what’s actually true?

One thing we do know for sure: babies need closeness, security, and loving people around them. Everything else? Fun to hear, but take it with a grain of salt.
