Baby development

I am in constant motion. Kicking and tumbling about so much that with a bit of luck mother might get a feeling of butterflies fluttering in her belly.

My nervous system continues to develop apace and the unique functions designed to control my sense of touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing are now specialized. My eyes have made their way to their rightful positions and now react to light.

This week, the air sacs (called alveoli) are developed. They will be filled with liquid and play an important role up until my birth when all fluid will be passed out once I take my first breath.

Mothers development

Your mucous membranes may swell as a result of increased blood flow, and constant nasal congestion may be a niggling irritant. You might also experience bleeding gums so be sure to mention the pregnancy to your dentist. As a result of your elevated hormonal imbalance, it’s not uncommon for some fungal infections to appear in the nether regions. If that occurs, prescription-free treatments can be bought at the pharmacy. Take care of your inner and outer you!

Will it be a boy or a girl? Or do you want to wait for the surprise? When we are still in for a surprise, some choose to tell loved ones after the routine ultrasound, but as usual, it is always you who decides when it feels right. The little anxiety that may have existed before has now (hopefully) been replaced by a happy expectation.
