1. Don’t focus too much on the bassinet

The bassinet is only used during the first few months (usually 3–6 months). After that, the seat is what matters for several years. Make sure to prioritise finding a comfortable, roomy, and reversible seat that your child can grow into. Don’t forget the canopy – it should protect against sun, wind, and snow.

2. Don’t forget the storage basket

A stroller isn’t just for your baby – it also has to hold everything from diapers to extra clothes. The bigger the basket, the better! Also, make sure it’s easy to access even when the bassinet is attached.

3. Check the car compatibility

Do you drive often? Try loading the stroller into your trunk before buying. Taking the wheels off might seem fine the first few times, but it gets old fast. You may also want to consider an infant car seat that can click directly onto the frame (with or without an adapter). That way, you won’t have to wake your baby when moving in and out of the car.

4. Test drive it – both of you

You’ll be taking plenty of walks – together and separately. Make sure both parents try out the stroller before buying. Check that the handlebar adjusts to the right height and that the stroller feels smooth to push. Experiment with different wheel types:

  • Air-filled wheels – great for rough terrain
  • Foam/plastic wheels – low maintenance
  • Swivel wheels – easy to manoeuvre in cities
  • Larger fixed wheels – more stable on country roads

5. Choose based on your lifestyle

Live in the city? Go for a slim, easy-to-steer stroller.
Live in the suburbs or countryside? You’ll want one with solid suspension and durable wheels.

And don’t forget to measure your elevator if you live in an apartment building – being a few inches off can be a real headache!

6. Double-check delivery times

Once you’ve decided on a stroller, the last thing you want is to be left without when the baby arrives. Some popular models have long shipping times – order early to avoid unnecessary stress.
